Your data stay with you
Each member runs its own trusted research environment (TRE) on a single server. You decide which datasets you offer, to whom, for what purpose and until when.

SHARE is a collaborative initiative that creates a secure and interoperable health data space dedicated to cancer research. Coordinated by Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda, it brings together healthcare institutions, research groups and technology partners around clinical data from more than 30,000 lung cancer patients from hospitals across Spain.
Every institution keeps its data in its own trusted research environment, under its own rules. Instead of moving patient records to a central repository, SHARE moves contracts, credentials and models: statistical and artificial intelligence models are trained where the data are, and only aggregate results are shared.
Each member runs its own trusted research environment (TRE) on a single server. You decide which datasets you offer, to whom, for what purpose and until when.
Members are identified with decentralised identities and verifiable credentials. Every use of data requires a contract negotiated under the data holder's own policy, checked again at every transfer.
Prediction models are trained across members with federated learning. Each result is documented in a model card and can be used by clinical platforms such as CLARIFY, for research.
Built on open standards: Eclipse Dataspace Components, Dataspace Protocol, Decentralized Claims Protocol, W3C DIDs and Verifiable Credentials, ODRL, DCAT and OMOP CDM.
Read the participant guide and the technical requirements to learn how the data space works and what joining involves.
Write to us with your organisation, the role you want to play and the use cases you are interested in. We review your application and, if it meets the criteria, you sign the adhesion agreement.
Prepare a server that meets the requirements. The authority installs your node and admits its identity; your membership credential is issued automatically.
Publish your datasets under your own policies, take part in federated training and use the models shared in the data space.

| Server | A dedicated virtual or physical machine with Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.04, at least 2 vCPU, 6 GB of RAM and 40 GB of disk, on your own infrastructure or with a cloud provider in the European Union. |
|---|---|
| Network | A public DNS name for your TRE and a static IP. Only port 443 is open to the Internet; port 22 only for the authority's installation and updates. |
| Software | Installed by the authority: a dataspace connector (Eclipse Dataspace Components), your identity and key vault, a federated learning client (Flower) and your own management console with user accounts and an audit log. |
| Data | Access from the TRE to the data you choose to offer: a database or API, files, or cloud storage. Data are described in the catalogue, optionally with an OMOP CDM description. |
| People | A technical contact with administrative access to the server, and a data protection contact. |
The technical setup usually takes less than a day; most of the time to join is spent on the formal agreement.
